2014 Outlander SUV Sets Direction for Mitsubishi
Three trim levels are offered--ES, SE and GT--all equipped with electric steering. A 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard, generating 166 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 162 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,200 rpm. It is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that mimics shift points for more natural "shift" feel and which provides an Acceleration Control feature for improved drivetrain response when climbing hills. A driver-controlled Eco Mode is designed to improve fuel economy by reducing engine power and climate control function.
The 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander GT is equipped with a standard 3.0-liter V-6 engine generating 224 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and 215 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,750 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters delivers the power to all four of the crossover SUV's wheels through Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel-drive system. The S-AWC system is optional for the Outlander SE.
In addition to a standard third-row seat, the 2014 Outlander ES is equipped with soft-touch interior surfaces, gloss black cabin trim, and dark-tinted privacy glass. Additionally, this model includes air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, power side mirrors, remote keyless entry, cruise control, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and a stereo with a CD/MP3 player. Standard safety features include a knee air bag for the driver, traction control, stability control, anti-lock brakes, and hill-start assist.
The 2014 Outlander SE is equipped with a 6-inch touch-screen radio, HD Radio, USB port, and Bluetooth connectivity. Dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, passive keyless entry and push-button ignition, and a reversing camera are also standard on the SE trim, which is distinguished by fog lights and 18-inch aluminum wheels.
The Outlander GT adds a V-6 engine and the S-AWC system, plus high-intensity discharge headlights, chrome exterior accents, rain-sensing wipers, satellite radio, and wood grain interior trim.
Mitsubishi plans to offer two option packages for the SE and GT versions. The Premium package includes a panoramic glass sunroof, leather seats, power driver's seat, remote power tailgate, and a 710-watt premium audio system. For SE models, this package also includes satellite radio and wood grain interior trim. The optional Touring package equips the 2014 Outlander with a next-generation navigation system, lane-departure warning system, adaptive cruise control system, and a forward-collision mitigation system.
Six color choices will be offered for the 2014 Outlander: Cool Silver Metallic; Cosmic Blue Mica; Mercury Gray Metallic; Copper Metallic; Diamond White Pearl; or Labrador Black Mica. An Outlander plug-in hybrid model is planned for launch in early 2014.
