Toyota Recalls 2001-04 Toyota Tacoma for Spare Tire Issue
Official notifications will go out to owners of these midsize pickup trucks this month. Owners will be advised to take their vehicle to their dealer for inspection; if the plate is compromised, it will be replaced at no cost to the owner.
The recall affects Tacomas sold in states that use salt to clear roads of ice and snow: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.
This recall is small, compared with the recall of more than 10 million vehicles in all in October and early November of this year. The first recall, of nearly 7.5 million vehicles worldwide, was due to faulty power window switches; the second, which involved an estimated 2.77 million vehicles including the popular Prius and Corolla models, was due to problems with the steering shafts and water pumps.
Owners of vehicles being recalled may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)'s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to http://www.safercar.gov. Refer to NHTSA campaign ID No. 12V542000.
