2014 Cadillac ELR Confirmed for Detroit Debut

An extended-range electric vehicle, the new Cadillac ELR is equipped with a gasoline engine that serves as a generator for the electric propulsion system, allowing the vehicle to be driven long distances without requiring a recharge, according to Cadillac. In rare instances, the gasoline engine is used to assist the electric drivetrain to climb mountain grades. Otherwise, the gasoline engine's energy is converted to electricity used to power the car's front wheels.
Cadillac says the new 2014 ELR will be built in Detroit.
