Nissan Hi-Cross Concept Signals Future of Crossover SUVs
Beyond the new styling themes, the Hi-Cross Concept also provides a glimpse of Nissan's new gas-electric hybrid powertrain technology, a compact yet powerful new drivetrain that saves enough space to allow Nissan to install three rows of seats in this model.
Pairing a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor powered by a Lithium-ion battery pack, the new "one-motor/two-clutch" gas-electric hybrid system can disengage the gasoline engine for low-speed, electric-only travel and when the Hi-Cross is coasting or braking to a stop. The system is designed for use in front- and all-wheel-drive models.
With both the Nissan Rogue and Nissan Murano due for redesigns, one or both of these models is likely to incorporate design and engineering from the Hi-Cross Concept vehicle.
