2013 Ford Escape Recalled for Fourth Time

For the fourth time since it went on sale last summer, the redesigned 2013 Ford Escape has been recalled. This time, Ford has determined that if the optional 1.6-liter, turbocharged, EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine overheats, fluids could leak and, in the presence of an ignition source, such as a hot exhaust system, could catch fire.

A remedy to resolve the latest recall for the crossover SUV is in development, but Ford wants affected Escape owners to contact their dealer or call Ford directly to arrange alternate transportation in the interim. The Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center telephone number is 1-866-436-7332. According to a report in Automotive News, Ford is paying dealers $55 per day toward car rental fees for the affected 73,320 owners.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Campaign ID number for this recall is 12V551000 and Ford's recall campaign number is 12S41. The affected Escapes were built between October 5, 2011, and November 26, 2012.
