2014 Acura MDX Foreshadowed by MDX Prototype in Detroit

Acura is making significant changes with the all-new 2014 MDX, a 3-row, 7-passenger, luxury crossover SUV. The new MDX is more aerodynamic, the automaker claiming a 16% improvement thanks in part to the SUV's new Aero Sculpture design theme. The sleeker silhouette contributes to improved fuel economy and helps Acura to quiet the MDX's cabin. The MDX also has a longer wheelbase and a roomier interior, contributing to gains in rear-seat leg room and access to its third-row seat.
Acura also offers the MDX with front-wheel drive for 2014, as well as a new direct-injection, 3.5-liter V-6 engine with fuel-saving Variable Cylinder Management technology. Final horsepower and torque figures were not available for the new 2014 MDX, but this is the same engine that is installed in the 2014 Acura RLX, a sedan in which it generates 310 horsepower and 272 lb. ft. of torque.
Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) is optional for the 2014 Acura MDX, but the automaker does not explain whether it will be offered with the standard V-6 engine or integrated with a more powerful gas-electric hybrid powertrain as it is in the 2014 RLX sedan.
An AcuraLink cloud-based infotainment and telematics system is confirmed for the 2014 Acura MDX. Options will include a premium audio system, Jewel Eye LED headlights, and numerous safety technologies such as forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning system, blind-spot information system, lane-keeping assist system, and active cruise control with Low Speed Follow.
The new 2014 Acura MDX starts rolling off an assembly line in Alabama shortly before going on sale in the summer of 2013.
