New Acura NSX Concept Takes Another Leap Toward Production
The new NSX Concept that debuted in Detroit features updated exterior styling that an Acura spokesperson referred to as "remarkably true to the original concept styling." Acura characterizes the NSX Concept's design as clean, modern and simple, but enhanced with details the automaker considers edgy and that communicate supercar attitude and a high-tech feel.
In Detroit, Acura provided a first look at the company's approach to the 2015 Acura NSX model's interior design. The automaker says that the design concept's theme is "a strong expression of Acura's product direction focused on the synergy between man and machine," and the company claims it offers an exotic driving position, excellent outward visibility, and minimized interior clutter to help the driver to focus on the driving experience.
Acura says that this version of the NSX Concept contains the expected production powertrain, but gives no specifics with regard to engine output and expected performance. Equipped with a direct-injection V-6 engine mounted behind the seats and forward of the rear wheels, the NSX Concept features Acura's Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) technology, which debuts in the 2014 Acura RLX.
Sport Hybrid SH-AWD pairs the V-6 engine and a new dual-clutch transmission (DCT) with three electric motors. One electric motor is integrated with the gasoline engine, while the other two motors drive the NSX Concept's front wheels. This arrangement enables instantaneous delivery of positive or negative torque-vectoring to the front wheels when the car is cornering.
According to Mike Accavitti, vice president of national marketing operations, "We're making great progress in delivering on the expectations we created a year ago, with advanced technology that will bring new levels of performance and a unique, dynamic experience to the exotic sports car market."
