2014 Cadillac CTS Horsepower and Fuel Economy Estimates Announced
The standard engine is a turbocharged, direct-injection, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit generating an estimated 272 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and an estimated 295 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,700 and 5,500 rpm. Fuel-economy ratings, according to Cadillac, are 19 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway for the rear-drive model, and 18 mpg city/28 mpg highway for the all-wheel-drive model. Premium fuel is recommended for this engine but not required.
Buyers of the 2014 Cadillac CTS can choose a direct-injection 3.6-liter V-6 engine, rated to deliver 321 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 275 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 rpm. This V-6 is designed to operate on regular unleaded gas or E85 ethanol. Using unleaded, fuel-economy estimates are 19 mpg city/28 mpg highway with rear-wheel drive and 18 mpg city/27 mpg highway with all-wheel drive.
At the 2014 CTS model's launch, a new Cadillac Twin-Turbo V-6 will be the top engine offering, generating an estimated 420 horsepower at 5,750 rpm and 430 lb.-ft. of torque between 3,500 and 4,500 rpm. Cadillac says that 90% of the twin-turbocharged V-6 engine's peak torque will be available between 2,500 and 5,500 rpm.
A new 8-speed automatic transmission is standard for the twin-turbo 2014 Cadillac CTS, equipped with paddle shifters for manual control over gear changes. It feeds power to the vehicle's rear wheels, and Cadillac predicts fuel-economy ratings of 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway. As this article is written, the automaker has not announced whether all-wheel drive will be available with the new Cadillac Twin-Turbo V-6 powertrain.
