General Motors Offers Deals to Clear Pickup Truck Inventory
According to a report in Automotive News, dealers had a 138-day supply of Silverados and Sierras at the end of November, a total of 243,691 trucks on the ground or in the pipeline. Carroll Smith, who owns Monument Chevrolet in Pasadena, Texas, told Automotive News, "I'm overloaded. I've got them everywhere." Smith added, "They're going to have to get really aggressive to sell these trucks."
To address the inventory glut, GM has added $2,000 in customer rebates to the 2012 and 2013 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra, adding to the $1,000 in "bonus cash" the company is already paying out. The 2013 models are also offered with 0% financing.
Jill Green, who owns Green Chevrolet in East Moline, Illinois, told Automotive News that with the new rebates she would be advertising discounts as high as $11,000 on the outgoing Silverado models. "If anyone was going to buy a truck, I can't imagine they're going to get it any cheaper than they are this month," Green told Automotive News.
