2014 Toyota Tundra Updated, Not Redesigned
Regular cab, extended cab (Double Cab), and crew cab (CrewMax) body styles continue, offered in SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, and 1794 Edition trim levels. The SR trim level is new for 2014 and represents the base version of the 2014 Tundra. The 2014 Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition is a special version of the Tundra Platinum, one paying homage to the Texas ranchland upon which the Tundra assembly plant is built, a ranch established in 1794.
Toyota says the 2014 Tundra's new interior offers greater comfort compared with the outgoing model, additional storage space, and controls placed closer to the driver for easier access. Toyota retains large knobs and buttons that are easy to use when the driver is wearing work gloves.
While the Tundra SR5 is expected to be the most popular model, three luxury-themed models mean this full-size Toyota pickup can be outfitted with leather, heated and ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, premium Display Audio sound system with a color in-dash touch screen and Entune connectivity services, navigation system, and a power sunroof. Additional upgrades include a range of 20-inch aluminum wheel designs and LED running lights, as well as rear park-assist sensors, blind-spot information system, and rear cross-traffic alert technology.
The 2014 Toyota Tundra regular cab and Double Cab models are equipped with a standard 4.0-liter V-6 engine generating 270 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 278 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,400 rpm. This engine is offered only with 2-wheel drive (2WD) and only with a 5-speed automatic transmission.
The 2014 Toyota Tundra CrewMax and all Tundras with 4-wheel drive (4WD) are equipped with a 4.6-liter V-8 engine delivering 310 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 327 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,400 rpm. A 6-speed automatic is included with this engine, which is optional for Tundra regular cab and Double Cab models.
Toyota also offers a 5.7-liter V-8 engine for the 2014 Tundra, rated for 381 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 401 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,400 rpm. An E85-compatible version of this V-8 is optional, and the engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and the buyer's choice between 2WD and 4WD.
Designed in California, engineered in Michigan, and built in Texas, the new 2014 Tundra goes on sale in September of 2013.
