NHTSA Advises CR-V Owners to Park Outside Due to Fire Risk

If you own one of the 268,655 Honda CR-V vehicles that have been recalled for a potential problem with the driver side power window switch, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is advising that you park the crossover SUV outside until appropriate inspections and repairs have been made.

The affected vehicles are 2002-2006 Honda CR-V models assembled between February 19, 2002, and July 28, 2006. The problem is that the driver side power window switch could fail, overheat, melt, and cause a fire even if the vehicle is not in use.

Honda will notify affected vehicle owners, and inspect and repair CR-V models free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on November 2, 2012. The NHTSA campaign ID number is 12V486000, and concerned owners can contact Honda directly at 1-800-999-1009 with regard to Honda recall number S61.
