Easy Home Improvement Projects

Here are some home improvement projects that will take little time, won't cost much, and will improve the look, feel, and comfort of your home considerably.

Organize. Choose one part of your home kitchen cabinets, garage, tool shed, basement workbench and organize it on the principle of "a place for everything, and everything in its place." For organizing tools, pegboard and hooks are handy. Label each hook with a number or letter, and label each tool and appliance the same way, to ensure that every item is where you expect it to be.

Replace doorknobs. Interior doors on prefabricated houses sometimes have uninteresting knobs; those on old houses can often be worn out. Go to your favorite home furnishings store and find some new ones.

Replace the showerhead. If you don't have a showerhead that gives you plenty of options, consider a new one.

Add mirrors. If you don't have a lot of art on your walls, put up mirrors instead. Mirrors add light and give the impression of more space.

Improve traffic patterns. Rearrange your furniture to make it easier for people to move around a room, or to go from room to room.

Improve your fa?ade. Add easy-to-read house numbers, a new mailbox, a decorative door-knocker, or maybe a garden gnome or birdbath. Throw out or donate worn-out porch furniture.

Dig up part of your back yard. Take up some of the sod and install a flagstone patio. It's hard work, but it doesn't take long. Or start a garden of vegetables and fruits that take care of themselves, like watermelons, cucumbers, radishes, turnips, kale, and collards.

Shine your sink. People will notice your kitchen sink. Keep it empty and shining at all times.
