Exterior Features
The 2012 Volvo S60 is a midsize performance-oriented sedan available in three trims: T5, T6, and T6 R-Design. The base T5 features 17-inch wheels and heated mirrors. The T6 adds 18-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension, along with a choice of steering settings and more powerful brakes. The T6 R-Design features a rear spoiler and upgraded wheels, as well as bi-Xenon headlights and a sunroof.

Interior Features
The base Volvo S60 T5 model features cloth upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, power accessories that include an 8-way power driver seat and power-folding headrests, 8-speaker sound system, and Bluetooth connectivity. The T6 upgrades to leather upholstery and adds an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The T6 R-Design adds upgrades to the interior styling, sport seats, and a sport steering wheel.

Optional Features
Many of the T6 R-Design upgrades are available as options on the regular T6. Other packages include heated front seats and windshield washers, automatic wipers, rearview camera, navigation system, premium 12-speaker surround-sound system, adaptive cruise control, and various safety upgrades. A dual-screen rear-entertainment system is available on the lower trims. The T6's sport suspension is available on the T5, while an even more sophisticated suspension system is optional on the T6.

Under the Hood
A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard on the Volvo S60. The base engine is a 2.5-liter, turbocharged inline 5-cylinder rated at 250 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque; on the T5 it works with front-wheel drive. The T6 features all-wheel drive and a 3.0-liter, turbocharged, inline 6-cylinder engine rated at 300 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque. The T6 R-Design is fitted with that same engine, but boosted up to 325 horsepower and 354 lb.-ft. of torque.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Volvo S60 are:
- S60 T5: 20/30/23 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- S60 T6 and T6 R-Design: 18/26/21 mpg

Standard safety features on the 2012 Volvo S60 include anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, and a full complement of air bags, with many high-tech safety features optional.

In government tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Volvo S60 received 5 (out of 5) stars for all impact tests. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the S60 received \"Good\" ratings--the Institute's highest--for all crash protection tests.
