Exterior Features
The 2012 Volvo C30 is a 2-door hatchback offered in two models--T5 and T5 R-Design--each offering two trim levels--Premier Plus and Platinum. Seventeen-inch wheels are standard on the base C30 T5 model, while 18-inch wheels are standard on the sportier C30 T5 R-Design.

Interior Features
The Volvo C30 seats 4 passengers and offers 12.9 cubic feet of trunk space behind the rear seats and 20.2 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded down. Base T5 models feature cloth upholstery, cruise control, 8-speaker stereo with iPod connectivity, and full power accessories. The T5 R-Design upgrades to leather upholstery, sport pedals, and metallic interior trim.

Optional Features
Volvo groups many of the options for the C30 into packages, and adds options to higher trim levels. C30 T5 R-Design models include a sport-tuned suspension and quicker steering ratio, compared with the base model. The Premier Plus trim features a sunroof, power seats, and LED daytime running lights, while the top-of-the-line Platinum trim adds a navigation system and premium audio system with satellite radio. The Climate package--available on either model--adds heated seats, automatic climate control, and rain-sensing wipers. Stand-alone options include Volvo's Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and active Xenon headlights.

Under the Hood
All Volvo C30 models are powered by a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine rated at 227 horsepower. Front-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission come standard, with a 5-speed automatic transmission optional.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Volvo C30 are:
- C30 with manual transmission: 21/29/24 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- C30 with automatic transmission: 21/30/24 mpg

Safety
Standard safety features on the Volvo C30 include anti-lock brakes, active front head restraints, and side curtain air bags.

To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not conducted crash tests on the 2012 Volvo C30. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the C30 received a \"Good\" rating--the Institute's highest--for both frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection.
