Five different engines are offered for the 2013 Jetta. The S Sedan has a 115-horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, while the S SportWagen, SE, and SEL Sedan trims provide a 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter, inline 5-cylinder engine. Each of these engines can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) automated manual transmission.

The Jetta Hybrid Sedan pairs a turbocharged, 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric assist motor and a Lithium-ion battery pack for a combined 170 horsepower. A 7-speed DSG is standard, and in electric mode the Jetta can travel up to 1.2 miles at up to 44 mph.
