What's New for 2014:
  • Executive trim level
  • Proprietary telematics system
  • Several features previously optional are now standard
  • Previous year's mid-cycle changes included LED lights
  • Rear seat now accommodates 3 passengers

The Volkswagen CC was once known as the Passat CC, but the CC was later spun off as a model in its own right. It's a sedan with a fastback, but Volkswagen calls it a 4-door coupe, and CC stands for \"Comfort Coupe.\" The 2014 Volkswagen CC is an inch longer, 2 inches lower, and 1.47 inches wider than the Passat. It's available with either a 4-cylinder engine (designated \"2.0T\") or a V-6 (\"VR6\") and in four trim levels: Sport, Executive, R-Line, and V6 Executive 4Motion.

Models and Features
The base 2014 Volkswagen CC is available in dark blue, deep red, dark brown, light brown, white, silver, grey, or black. The 2.0T Sport trim features bi-xenon high-intensity headlights with LED daytime running lights and adaptive front-lighting system, LED taillights, 17-in. Verme alloy wheels. Standard technology features include Bluetooth with audio streaming, rearview camera, media interface with iPod cable, touch-screen navigation system with 5-in. color display and SD memory card reader, and Volkswagen Car-Net connected car features. Also standard are dual-zone automatic climate control with pollen filter and rear passenger ventilation, V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces, and heated front seats with 12-way power adjustability. The Executive trim level adds a power-tilting sunroof; 18-in. alloy wheels; premium touch screen with HD Radio and a 30GB hard disk; keyless entry with push-button start; leather seating surfaces; and heated front seats. The R-Line version adds lower extended sport bumpers and side skirts, sport suspension with independent front MacPherson struts and independent 4-link rear suspension, and 18-in. Mallory alloy wheels and reverts to leatherette seating surfaces. The top-of-the-line V6 Executive 4Motion adds all-wheel drive (AWD); hands-free easy-open trunk; park-assist system; upgraded 18-in. alloy wheels; premium 10-speaker sound system; and leather seating surfaces (actively ventilated in front, with driver's seat massage). The 2014 Volkswagen CC features 13 cu. ft. of trunk space.

Optional Features
Many features that are standard on upper trim levels may be added to lower trims individually or as part of a package. Cloth upholstery is also available, as are many dealer-installed accessories.

Under the Hood
The 2014 Volkswagen CC 2.0T is equipped with a turbocharged, 2.0-liter, 200-horsepower 4-cylinder engine that produces 207 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard only on the 2.0T Sport. All other CC 2.0T trims feature Volkswagen's Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) transmission. The VR6 4Motion Executive trim features a standard 3.6-liter, 280-horsepower V-6 engine that produces 265 lb.-ft. of torque. Also standard is a 6-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, and AWD.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2014 Volkswagen CC are:
  • CC 2.0T with manual transmission: 21/32/25 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • CC 2.0T with DSG: 22/31/25 mpg
  • CC V-6 with automatic transmission: 17/25/20 mpg

The 2014 VW CC is equipped with 6 air bags, traction and stability control, and 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist and brake drying. A reversing camera is optional only on Executive and V-6 versions. The Car-Net telematics system is also standard, and includes crash notification, roadside assistance, and remote access. It also can set geographical boundaries for guest drivers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the CC 4 stars (out of a possible 5) for rollover resistance, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the CC its highest possible rating--\"Good\"-- in moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact, whiplash protection, and roof strength tests, and a \"Marginal\" rating for small-overlap frontal-offset crash protection.
