Exterior Features
The new 2012 Toyota Prius c is a smaller, lighter, and less expensive Prius model with a starting price of less than $20,000. More than 18 inches shorter and 500 pounds lighter than the standard Prius, the new Prius c is a 5-door hatchback sold in One, Two, Three, and Four trim levels. The Prius c Three has body-color exterior door handles, and the Prius c Four has 15-inch aluminum wheels and fog lights.

Interior Features
Toyota Prius c standard interior features include automatic climate control, hands-free Bluetooth connectivity, stereo with USB port and an auxiliary audio input jack, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. A 3.5-inch screen displays hybrid system information.

Optional Features
Moving up trim levels, the Prius c adds cruise control, center storage console with an armrest, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, keyless entry with push-button start, Bluetooth connectivity with music streaming, HD and satellite radio, navigation system, and Toyota's Entune smartphone pairing technology with mobile application operation. Additional options include aluminum wheels, power sunroof, leatherette seats, heated front seats, and heated side mirrors.

Under the Hood
The Prius c is fitted with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive system, which is comprised of an Atkinson-cycle 1.5-liter gasoline 4-cylinder engine, an electric assist motor, and a nickel-metal hydride battery pack. Combined, the system generates 99 horsepower. Normal, Eco, and EV driving modes are standard; in EV mode, the Prius c is capable of traveling up to 1 mile at speeds less than 25 mph, according to Toyota.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Toyota Prius c are 53/46/50 mpg (city/highway/combined).

Standard safety features on the Toyota Prius c include traction control, stability control, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, Smart Stop technology, and 9 air bags.

To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not conducted tests on the 2012 Toyota Prius c. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Prius c received \"Good\" ratings--the Institute's highest--for all crash protection tests, and the hybrid model was named a \"Top Safety Pick\" for 2012.
