Overview

The Scion xB is a compact hatchback with wagon styling. First introduced with Toyota's newly-formed Scion brand in 2004, the first-generation xB was produced until 2007. In 2008, the current second-generation model debuted. It was less boxy with more rounded edges when compared to its predecessor. The 2011 model receives a significant refresh, including a revised front and rear bumper, new front grill, and new lights. The dashboard has been updated and there are new front seats. The special-edition release for 2011 is Voodoo Blue in color.

Scion offers its xB in two trim levels: Base and Release Series 8.0. The base model arrives with standard air conditioning, cloth upholstery, keyless entry, full power accessories, 16-inch steel wheels, and more. The special-edition Release Series 8.0 (each year the automaker adds one numeral to the name) is upgraded with special paint, a sunroof, full body, kit and unique color-matching upholstery accents. Customers are encouraged to customize their xB models. To satisfy this need, Scion offers a long list of upgrade options including elaborate audio and navigation systems, alloy wheels, multi-color ambient lighting, and more.

All models of the Scion xB share the same 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that is rated at 158 horsepower. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on all models, with a four-speed automatic optional. All Scion xB models are front wheel drive. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Scion xB between 22 mpg city, and 28 mpg highway - both transmissions deliver the same fuel economy.

The 2011 Scion xB starts with a base price of about $17,500 and tops out with the Scion xB Release Series 8.0, which starts around $19,000.

The brand was launched in 2002 as the automaker made changes to its product lineup in order to capture a larger share of younger buyers. Unlike the automaker's Toyota or Lexus brands, both marketed and sold through traditional methods, Scion took a different approach. Consumers were targeted through non-traditional marketing.
