After 13 years, Toyota Motor announced today that it will discontinue its Scion youth nameplate and fold existing models into the Toyota brand, beginning in August with 2017 model-year vehicles.
Toyota Motor’s Scion youth brand unveiled the C-HR compact crossover concept this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Initially imagined as a youth-oriented sub-brand for Toyota Motor Corp., Scion has instead drawn the relatively limited interest of buyers young and not-so-young with products ranging from the fairly sporty tC to the funky yet utilitarian xB.

Scion introduces its redesigned tC An all-new subcompact model, called the iQ, is just around the cornerHistoryScion, a Japanese brand, is a division of Toyota Motor Corporation. The brand was launched in 2002 as the automaker made changes to its product lineup in order to capture a larger share of younger buyers. Unlike the automaker's Toyota or Lexus brands, both marketed and sold through traditional methods, Scion took a different approach. Consumers were targeted through non-traditional marketing. In addition, each automotive model would have just one standard trim level (but there would be a long list of available accessories for customers to personalize their vehicles). Lastly, Scion models would be sold with a fixed price.
Critical Knowledge:2010 tC: With the exception of one new exterior color for 2010, the tC is essentially the same car it was in 2005 when it debuted.2010 xB: A new limited-edition model called the Release Series 7.0 makes its debut while the rest of the lineup receives only minor changes. These include improvements to the audio system and a new exterior color.2010 xD: Standard vehicle stability control and a newly standard 160-watt audio system with iPod connectivity round out the changes for 2010.

The car is unchanged for 2009; indeed, sales began in May with the only change being Stingray Metallic paint available instead of the former Nautical Blue Metallic color. The 2008 model year brought a new flair to the xB's boxy design, as well as the added punch from a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine with 158 hp, or a third more power than was available for the first-generation "xBox." The new engine provides 22 mpg city/28 mpg highway mileage ratings.
