Exterior Features
The 2012 Porsche Boxster is a 2-door roadster that comes with a soft top and is offered in four trim levels. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels are standard.

Interior Features
The 2012 Porsche Boxster offers seating for 2 passengers and provides a combined total of 9.9 cubic feet of cargo space in both front and rear trunks. Base models come equipped with full power accessories, air conditioning, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, 4-speaker audio system, and partial leather upholstery. The new S Black Edition features black monochrome interior styling accents, automatic climate control, navigation system, and premium Bose audio system. The Boxster Spyder is stripped of most interior conveniences to save weight, even replacing door handles with cloth straps.

Optional Features
Porsche offers a wide range of options for the Boxster depending on trim level. Stand-alone options of note include a variety of aluminum wheels, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, and heated seats. Some options are grouped into packages, such as the Infotainment package, which features a navigation system and premium sound system. The Convenience package adds a wind deflector, auto-dimming mirrors, automatic wipers, and adaptive bi-Xenon headlights. The Sport Chrono package adds a sport button that modifies throttle response for improved performance, Porsche says.

Under the Hood
Porsche Boxster base models are fitted with a 2.9-liter 6-cylinder engine rated at 255 horsepower, while S models are fitted with a 3.4-liter 6-cylinder engine rated at 310 horsepower. Boxster S Black Edition and Spyder models come with the same engine as in the S model, but is tuned to generate 320 horsepower. All 2012 Boxsters are rear-wheel drive and come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, with a 7-speed automated manual available.

EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Porsche Boxster are:
- Boxster with 2.9-liter engine: 19-20/27-29/22-24 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Boxster with 3.4-liter, 310-horsepower engine: 19-20/26-29/22-23 mpg
- Boxster with 3.4-liter, 320-horsepower engine: 19-20/27-29/22-23 mpg

Safety
Standard safety features on the Porsche Boxster include roll bars and dual thorax and head side-impact air bags.

To date, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have tested the 2012 Porsche Boxster.
