Overview

What's New for 2014:
  • Revised steering wheel, tachometer, and exterior trim (Nismo)
  • Solid Red exterior paint color

Introduction
The 2014 Nissan 370Z is a 2-passenger, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) sports car model available in coupe and soft-top roadster body styles. Base, Touring, and Nismo (coupe only) trim levels are offered. Competitors include the Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, and the Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

Models and Features
Nissan offers the 370Z coupe and roadster in base and Touring trim levels, with the former boasting standard cruise control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, 18-in. alloy wheels, automatic headlights, height-adjustable driver's seat, push-button start, and heated mirrors. To this list the 370Z Touring adds Bluetooth connectivity, leather upholstery with faux suede trim, heated power front seats, aluminum foot pedals, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a 240-watt premium audio system that includes a 6-disc CD changer, dual subwoofers, and satellite radio service.

Roadster models also feature a cloth power-retracting soft top with a glass rear window and defroster.

Available only in coupe form is the 370Z Nismo. Complementing the car's extra power and more aggressively tuned chassis are Alcantara interior trim, lower body kit and rear spoiler, 19-in. alloy wheels, and red accent stitching.

Options and Packages
Factory options for the 2014 Nissan 370Z are extremely limited, especially for the Nismo. Aside from a premium audio system, which also features Bluetooth connectivity and the auto-dimming rearview mirror, there is nothing available for buyers of the sportiest Z model.

The slim-pickings story carries over to the regular coupe and roadster variants, too, where there's a Sport package consisting of the Nismo's 19-in. alloy wheels, limited-slip differential, upgraded brakes, and a rear spoiler. A Navigation package is offered exclusively for the 370Z Touring, and includes a 7-in. touch-screen display, Bluetooth streaming audio, iPod compatibility, and a rearview camera.

Under the Hood
All 2014 Nissan 370Z models feature a naturally aspirated 3.7-liter V-6 engine that delivers output to the rear wheels via one of two available transmissions: a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic with paddle shifters (the latter is not offered on the 370Z Nismo).

Base and Touring variants reward drivers with 332 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. Those figures jump to 350 and 276, respectively, for the 370Z Nismo, which sports a unique dual exhaust system. Engineers have also upgraded the Nismo with downshift rev-match technology for the manual transmission (optional on Base and Touring), limited-slip differential, larger brake rotors and aluminum calipers, and performance-tuned shocks and springs.

Fuel Economy
Interestingly, Nissan claims base and Nismo versions of the 2014 370Z coupe share the same EPA-rated fuel economy: 18 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and 21 mpg combined. That is, of course, with the 6-speed manual gearbox. Opt for the 7-speed automatic transmission and the city and combined ratings increase by 1 mpg, while the highway figure holds steady at 26 mpg.

Compared with the coupe, the 370Z roadster is only slightly less efficient. According to the EPA, the drop-top Nissan will average 25 mpg on the highway and up to 18 mpg around town when the automatic transmission is selected.

Safety and Ratings
As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the crashworthiness of the 2014 Nissan 370Z.

Among the 2014 Nissan 370Z's standard safety features are 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution, HID headlights and LED taillights, 6 air bags, and active head restraints.
