The 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander is a compact SUV available in three trim levels. Standard features include roof rails. All-wheel drive is optional on the top two trims.

Interior Features
Standard amenities on the Mitsubishi Outlander include cruise control, remote keyless entry, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and a 6-speaker CD stereo.

Optional Features
The 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander offers several options with the higher trim levels. The SE trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, turn signal mirrors, keyless ignition and entry, sliding second-row seats, third-row seats, and steering-column-mounted paddle shifters. The GT trim offers automatic Xenon headlights and automatic wipers. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) version of the GT includes start assist and other driving aids.

Under the Hood
The 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander's two lowest trim versions are powered by a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 168 horsepower and mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The GT is equipped with a 3.0-liter V-6 engine rated at 230 horsepower and mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Outlander is available in front-wheel or all-wheel drive (FWD or AWD).

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander are:
- Outlander with 2.4-liter engine and FWD: 23/28/25 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Outlander with 2.4-liter engine and AWD: 22/27/24 mpg
- Outlander with 3.0-liter engine and FWD: 19/26/22 mpg
- Outlander with 3.0-liter engine and AWD: 19/25/21 mpg

Safety
Standard safety features on the 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander include anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, front-seat side air bags, and side curtain air bags.

In government tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander received 4 (out of 5) stars for crash protection. The NHTSA did not test the Outlander for rollover protection. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Outlander received \"Good\" ratings--the Institute's highest--for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection and \"Acceptable\" ratings for roof strength and rear-crash protection.
