The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, a new model for 2011, is an entry-level SUV: a smaller, lighter (by 700 pounds), less powerful, and lower-priced version of the Mitsubishi Outlander. It's available with front- or all-wheel drive (FWD or AWD).

The 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport comes in two trim levels: ES and SE. The Outlander Sport ES features 16-inch steel wheels, cloth upholstery, air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, and a 4-speaker sound system. The Outlander Sport SE features 18-inch alloy wheels, upgraded fabric upholstery, automatic climate control, automatic xenon headlights, fog lights, chrome tailpipe finisher, keyless ignition, 6-speaker sound system, and optional heated front seats that come bundled with AWD. Most options are available as part of a package, and they can include various interior and exterior enhancements. A hard-drive-based navigation system and keyless ignition are stand-alone options. Storage space behind the rear seats amounts to 21.7 cubic feet. Maximum cargo capacity is 49.5 cubic feet, according to Mitsubishi.

The 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport's standard power plant is a 148-horsepower, 2.0-liter, inline 4-cylinder engine that teams with a 5-speed manual or an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT), which functions as an automatic. The CVT is standard on the Outlander Sport SE trim. Front-wheel drive is also standard, and a 3-mode AWD system is available with the SE trim. Gas mileage varies slightly depending on options, but averages 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.

Standard safety features on the 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport include anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, front side air bags, side curtain air bags, and driver's knee air bag. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Outlander Sport highest-possible \"Good\" ratings for front- and side-impact crash protection, and \"Acceptable\" for rear protection and roof strength.

Starting MSRP for the 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is $18,495.
