Mercedes-Benz charges into 2016 with an abundance of 2017 model-year redesigns and replacements. Debuts for 2017 later this year include a new technology-loaded E-Class. Also launching this year are a new SLC-Class (replacing the SLK-Class), SL-Class, GLS-Class (successor for GL-Class), and S-Class Cabriolet. As if that weren’t enough, Mercedes’ top-selling C-Class will gain a new coupe for 2017.
For the 2016 model year, Mercedes debuts a track-ready AMG GT S coupe. Also, refreshed for 2016 is the M-Class, renamed GLE-Class. In Mercedes’ nomenclature, SUVs now start with “G.” Two variants in the benchmark S-Class range are a new Maybach (after a decade-long hiatus) and a plug-in hybrid. In the van segment, Mercedes adds the midsize 2016 Metris.
Mercedes also equips 2016 models with a 5-year complimentary next-generation mbrace2 Connect telematics package that features Web connectivity, roadside assistance, and diagnostic info. Also, Collision Prevention Assist Plus is now standard on all 2016 Mercedes models. Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive (AWD) is available on nine models (CLA-, CLS-, C-, E-, and S-Class plus GLA-, GLC-, GLE- and GL-Class SUVs).
