Also known as the \"G-Wagen,\" the G550 includes a chrome grille guard, stainless steel running boards, exterior-mounted spare tire with a polished stainless steel cover, and dual side-pipe exhaust outlets. The SUV is also equipped with bi-xenon headlights with washers, cornering lights, LED running lights, LED turn signal lights in the exterior mirror caps, LED taillights, and front and rear park-assist sensors. Dark-tinted glass is also standard, along with rain-sensing wipers, heated exterior mirrors with a power-fold feature, and 18-inch aluminum wheels.

Interior Features
Mercedes-Benz says the G550's interior is constructed entirely by hand. Standard equipment includes premium leather for the seats, dashboard, and door panels, wood/leather steering wheel, and polished Burl Walnut wood cabin trim accented with chrome detailing. The multi-contour front seats offer 14-way power adjustment, heating and active ventilation, and memory settings, and the rear seats are heated for added comfort.

The G550 is also equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, an electrically heated windshield, ambient cabin lighting, universal garage door opener, navigation system, Mbrace 2 telematics, and Bluetooth connectivity with music streaming capability. The premium surround-sound audio system includes HD Radio, satellite radio, DVD/CD player, hard-drive music server, auxiliary audio input jack, USB port, SD memory card reader, and an MP3 media interface.

The G550 offers 79.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded and tumbled forward.

The 2013 Mercedes G-Class includes everything as standard equipment. The only options include Designo wood trim selections and a handful of dealer-installed accessories.

Under the Hood
A 5.5-liter V-8 engine is standard in the G550, which generates 382 horsepower and 391 lb.-ft. of torque. The V-8 drives all 4 wheels through a 7-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and a permanent all-wheel-drive system with a 2-speed transfer case and center, rear, and front sequential locking differentials. A standard 4-wheel electronic traction control system helps ensure that the G550 continues forward movement even if 3 wheels have lost contact with the road.

The G550 is equipped with solid front and rear axles, tows up to 7,500 pounds, and boasts 8 inches of ground clearance.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz G550 are 12/15/13 mpg (city/highway/combined).

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz G550 is equipped with 4 standard air bags including dual frontal-impact air bags and side curtain air bags for the outboard seating positions. The 4-wheel-disc braking system includes brake assist, predictive brake priming, brake drying, hill-start assist, and hold assist, and the anti-lock function works only when all three differentials are unlocked. Traction control, stability control, trailer stability assist, rain-sensing wipers, and front and rear park-assist sensors are also included on the G-Class, as well as Distronic Plus active cruise control with PreSafe Brake technology, blind-spot monitoring system, reversing camera, and individual tire-pressure monitoring.
