Exterior Features
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is a 4-passenger, premium luxury coupe based on the same platform and employing the same powertrains as the S-Class sedan. Four models are available: CL550, CL600, CL63 AMG, and the CL65 AMG. The AMG models are covered in a separate overview.

Standard equipment for the CL550 includes bi-xenon headlights with Active Curve Illumination, automatic high-beam headlights, LED running lights, LED taillights, power-folding and heated exterior mirrors, and 18-inch aluminum wheels.

Interior Features
The 2013 Mercedes CL550 model comes standard with leather, wood interior trim, wood/leather steering wheel, ambient cabin lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, and 12-way power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats. Additionally, the CL550 is equipped with a power sunroof, Keyless Go entry and push-button ignition, universal garage door opener, power trunk closer, and a power rear window shade. The standard COMAND system includes navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, 7.2-gigabyte music register hard drive, and a 600-watt premium surround-sound audio system with HD Radio and satellite radio.

Optional Features
Options for the CL550 are primarily grouped into packages. The Premium Package 2 adds a reversing camera, Night View Assist Plus with Pedestrian Detection technology, and active multi-contour massaging front seats. A Driver Assistance package includes active cruise control, blind-spot assist, and lane-keeping assist systems. A Sport package installs 19- or 20-inch AMG wheels and a body kit, while a new Grand Edition package offers the Sport package combined with special Designo paint and interior treatments. Additionally, the CL550 can be upgraded with a split-view front-seat entertainment system and a heated steering wheel.

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz CL600 includes the CL550's Premium Package 2 and Driver Assistance package contents as standard equipment, plus 19-inch aluminum wheels, heated steering wheel, premium semi-aniline leather, and a Dinamica headliner with quilted seams. Options include 20-inch aluminum wheels and the Split-view front-seat entertainment system.

Under the Hood
The 2013 CL550 is equipped with a twin-turbocharged, 4.6-liter V-8 engine generating 429 horsepower at 5,250 rpm and 516 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,800 rpm and 3,500 rpm. A 7-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters delivers power to all four wheels through the CL's standard 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. The CL550 also offers a standard adaptive damping air suspension with Sport and Comfort modes, and Direct Steer variable steering ratio technology.

A twin-turbocharged, 5.5-liter V-12 engine powers the 2013 CL600, and generates 510 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 612 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,800 rpm to 3,500 rpm. A 5-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is used with the V-12, and sends power to the car's rear wheels. The CL600 is equipped with an Active Body Control suspension including crosswind stabilization.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class models are:

  • CL550 4Matic: 15/24/18 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • CL600: 12/18/14 mpg

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is equipped with 9 air bags, traction and stability control system, and 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with perforated front discs and 4-piston calipers, brake assist, torque vectoring braking, Predictive Brake Priming, brake drying, hill-start assist, and hill-hold assist. Additionally, the CL offers a standard Attention Assist system, which is designed to detect a drowsy driver, and Pre-Safe technology, which readies the cabin for a crash if sensors determine a collision cannot be avoided. The CL-Class is also equipped with an Mbrace telematics system and rain-sensing wipers.

Safety-related options for the CL550 include a reversing camera, active cruise control, active blind-spot assist, and active lane-keeping assist systems. A Night View Assist Plus system with Pedestrian Detection technology is also available for the CL550. These features are standard on the CL600.

As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed crash tests on the 2013 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class.
