A compact crossover SUV, the Mazda Tribute was based on the popular Ford Escape, styled to look more upscale and less rugged than its sibling. It went on sale for the 2001 model year and was replaced after the 2011 model year by the Mazda-designed and -engineered CX-5. Tributes were offered in several levels of specification and with a 4-cylinder or a V-6 engine. Following a significant re-engineering for 2008, it also came with a rare but efficient hybrid drivetrain for a brief period of time.
