The Mazda MX-5, or Miata as it is more commonly known, was originally introduced in 1989. Now in its third generation and last redesigned for 2005, this two-seat convertible is offered in both soft- and hard-top configurations with a standard four-cylinder engine. The 2011 MX-5 is virtually unchanged, with the exception of a new Special Edition model, which features unique cosmetic touches inside and out.

The MX-5 is offered in four trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, and Special Edition. Standard Sport models feature cloth upholstery, air conditioning, a black vinyl top, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a six-speaker audio system. Touring models feature larger 17-inch wheels, upgraded suspension, power locks, steering-wheel-mounted controls, keyless entry, and other upscale enhancements. The Grand Touring model is configured much like the Touring, but adds the choice of a top color, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated seats, silver interior accents, seven-speaker Bose audio system, and more.

The Mazda MX-5 is fitted with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that is rated at 167 horsepower. Sport models are fitted with a five-speed manual transmission, while Touring and Grand Touring models are offered with a six-speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic transmission is optional across the model range, and all Miata variants are rear-wheel drive. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Mazda MX-5 between 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, depending on body style.

The 2011 Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport starts with a base price of about $23,500 and tops out with the Special Edition, which starts around $31,500.
