Exterior Features
The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV that seats 5 passengers. The design features a raked windshield and a prominent grille. The CX-7 is available in base, Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trims, with a regular 4-cylinder engine or a turbocharged version.
Interior Features
The 2012 Mazda CX-7 base i SV trim features 17-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, some power accessories, and a 4-speaker sound system. The i Sport trim includes privacy glass, Bluetooth connectivity, and leather-covered steering wheel and gearshift knob. The i Touring trim includes automatic climate control, sunroof, leather upholstery, navigation system, 9-speaker Bose sound system, and more power accessories. The s Touring trim adds the turbocharged engine plus most of the i Touring's features, and upgrades to 18-inch wheels, while the s Grand Touring adds the full Touring trim plus 19-inch wheels, automatic Xenon headlights, keyless entry and ignition, and many other premium features.
Optional Features
The 2012 Mazda CX-7 Sport trim offers a Convenience package that includes many features that are standard on the Touring trim, including a sunroof and automatic climate control. The Touring Technology package brings the s Touring trim up to the i Touring level, without the additions of the Grand Touring trim.
Under the Hood
The entry-level power plant for the 2012 Mazda CX-7 is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 161 horsepower and mated with a 5-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD). The s models upgrade to a turbocharged, 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 244 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard on s models, with all-wheel drive (AWD) as an option.
Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2012 Mazda CX-7 are:- CX-7 with base engine: 20/28/23 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- CX-7 with turbocharged engine and FWD: 18/24/20 mpg
- CX-7 with turbocharged engine and AWD: 17/21/19 mpg
Safety
Standard safety features on the Mazda CX-7 include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, traction control, front-seat side air bags, and side curtain air bags.
To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not tested the 2012 Mazda CX-7. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the CX-7 received \"Good\" ratings--the Institute's highest--for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection, and a \"Marginal\" rating for roof strength.
