Overview

Mazda's compact crossover SUV, the 5-seat CX-7, has added a few features to its upper trim levels for 2011. Otherwise, it carries over from the previous model year, when a new turbocharged engine was introduced as an option.

The base trim level of the 2011 Mazda CX-7, the i SV, features 17-inch wheels, power windows and locks, cruise control, air conditioning, and a 4-speaker sound system. The CX-7 i Sport trim adds Bluetooth connectivity and some cosmetic upgrades. The CX-7 i Touring trim features a sunroof, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, more power features, heated front seats, rearview camera, and more. The CX-7 s Touring trim features those upgrades plus 18-inch alloy wheels and a new turbocharged engine with dual exhaust outlets. The CX-7 s Grand Touring trim features 19-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, automatic Xenon headlights, automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, upgraded leather upholstery, upgraded Bose sound system, and other enhancements. The CX-7 i SV and i Sport are available with front-wheel drive (FWD); the Touring and Grand Touring offer optional all-wheel drive (AWD). All CX-7s provide 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, and 59 cubic feet with those seats folded down, according to the manufacturer.

The two lower trim levels of the 2011 Mazda CX-7 feature a 161-horsepower, 2.5-liter, inline 4-cylinder engine coupeed with a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift controls. That engine delivers 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway with FWD, according to the EPA. The CX-7 Touring and Grand Touring trims employ a turbocharged, 244-horsepower, 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift controls. It delivers 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway with FWD and 17/21 with AWD.

Standard safety features on the 2011 Mazda CX-7 include anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, stability control, traction control, front side air bags, and side curtain air bags. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the CX-7 highest-possible \"Good\" ratings in frontal-offset and side-impact crash tests.

Starting MSRPs for the 2011 Mazda CX-7 ranged from around $22,000 to around $33,000.
