  • Platinum Dune paint color choice

The 2014 Lincoln MKT is a 3-row, 7-passenger crossover SUV that shares its platform and powertrains with the Ford Flex. It competes in a luxury crossover SUV segment that includes the Acura MDX, Buick Enclave, Infiniti QX60, and Volvo XC90.

Models and Features
Lincoln offers the MKT with a choice between a V-6 engine with front-wheel drive (FWD) and a twin-turbocharged V-6 EcoBoost engine with all-wheel drive (AWD). Selecting the V-6/FWD combo provides Premiere trim and a limited number of options, while the EcoBoost AWD version is available in Premiere or Select trim and with a wider array of upgrades.

Standard equipment includes triple-zone automatic climate control, premium leather upholstery, 12-way power front seats with heating and ventilation, heated and ventilated second-row seats, second-row window sunshades, power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals, and a power liftgate. The standard MyLincoln Touch infotainment system includes an 8-inch color touch screen, two configurable 4.2-inch gauge cluster display screens, and a Media Hub with two USB ports, an SD card reader, and audio/video input jacks. Sync Bluetooth connectivity, passive keyless entry with push-button ignition, and a 110-volt power inverter are also included.

Additionally, the MKT Premiere is equipped with a panoramic Vista Roof, an Easy Fill capless fuel-filler system, heated exterior blind-spot mirrors, reversing camera, rear park-assist sensors, adaptive headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and MyKey programmable vehicle features.

Options and Packages
The 2014 MKT equipped with the standard V-6 engine and FWD can be optioned with extra-cost paint, inflatable seat belts for second-row passengers, and a handful of dealer-installed accessories including rear-seat entertainment systems that clamp to the front-seat headrest posts.

For greater variety, choose the MKT EcoBoost AWD model. The Premiere trim level is equipped as defined above, while the Select trim level includes an Elite package containing a navigation system, premium audio system, HD Radio, heated steering wheel, blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, and a power-folding third-row seat. Additional options include a power panoramic sunroof, 20-inch aluminum wheels, Class III trailer towing equipment, second-row bucket seats with a refrigerated center console, rear-seat entertainment system with screens embedded into the front-seat head restraints, and an adaptive cruise control system.

A Technology package is also offered for the MKT EcoBoost AWD Select. It adds Collision Warning with Brake Support, a lane-keeping system, and an Active Park Assist system.

Under the Hood
A 303-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 engine is standard for the MKT, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. Paddle shifters are standard, giving the driver manual control over gear changes.

The MKT EcoBoost AWD is equipped with a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine and an AWD system. This powertrain produces 365 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 350 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,500 rpm and 5,250 rpm. It shares a transmission with the standard MKT.

Fuel Economy
Stick with the standard V-6 engine and FWD and the EPA says the 2014 MKT will return 17 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg in combined driving. The EcoBoost AWD model is less efficient, with ratings of 16 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 18 mpg in combined driving.

Safety Ratings and Technology
As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed crash tests on the 2014 MKT.

The MKT is equipped with numerous standard safety features, including Sync 911 Assist technology. When a paired device is aboard the Lincoln at the time of air bag deployment, 911 Assist puts the MKT's occupants in direct contact with an emergency operator who can speed rescue to the SUV's exact location. Additionally, the MKT includes MyKey technology, which allows the SUV's owner to program safety-related features including speed warnings and limits, stereo volume limits, seat belt use warnings, and more.

Optional for both MKT trim levels, inflatable second-row outboard seat belts help to cushion impact forces on passengers in the event of a collision. The MKT EcoBoost AWD is further available with a blind-spot information system, rear cross-traffic alert, Collision Warning with Brake Support, and a lane-keeping system that includes lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist technologies.
