What Changed for 2009:
  • Luxury package includes new leather and wood trim, \"cool\" box, 20-inch wheels, and Smart Card key
  • Luxury package + Pre-Collision available with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
Lexus' flagship LX sport utility vehicle (SUV) has changed very little over the past decade. First introduced in 1996, the LX 450 was based on the 80 series Toyota Land Cruiser. Following an engine upgrade and added passenger amenities, the LX 450 was re-introduced as the LX 470 in 1998. In 2009, the Lexus LX 570 replaced its predecessor with another model based on the current Toyota Land Cruiser. Unlike the Toyota, the Lexus offers additional technological advancements, more power, luxury, safety, roominess, and better on- and off-road capabilities, the maker reports.

A new optional Luxury package for 2009 helps keep this luxurious 8-passenger model at the top of its segment. New semi-aniline leather-trimmed seating and Bubinga wood trim give the LX 570 an even more luxurious look and feel inside. A new cool box for beverages adds convenience, and a new SmartCard key enhances vehicle security. Elegant exterior design is accented for 2009 with new liquid graphite finish for the standard 20-inch wheels and a new exterior color, Costa Azul Mica.

Model Lineup
The 2009 Lexus LX 570 is offered as a single model, loaded with technology and luxury. It features a V-8 engine and 20-inch wheels. Other standard features include 4-zone automatic climate control, power-sliding second-row seating, and a power third row. In addition to Bluetooth capability, XM satellite radio with real-time traffic information is offered. Available options include climate-controlled front seats, heated rear seats, illuminated scuff plates, Smart Card key, and Bubinga wood trim (a unique wood used to decorate private jets). Optional driving and parking aids include Lexus Intuitive Park Assist, adaptive cruise control, and a pre-collision system. For audiophiles, a 19-speaker Mark Levinson Referenced Surround Sound audio system is available. This upgraded stereo offers a hard disc drive capable of storing up to 2000 songs.

The 2009 Lexus LX 570 is motivated by a 5.7-liter V-8 engine that provides 381 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. A new 6-speed sequential-shift automatic transmission is the only gearbox available. The standard 4-wheel-drive system is permanently engaged, and it offers a low range with an electronic crawl control for increased throttle control for maneuvering over difficult surfaces, Lexus says. The EPA fuel-economy estimates are 12 mpg city/18 mpg highway. The LX 570 is certified as a ULEV II-compliant vehicle. The basic warranty on the vehicle is 48 months/50,000 miles with the powertrain warranty for 72 months/70,000 miles.

The 2009 Lexus LX 570 offers 10 standard air bags inside the passenger cabin. The driver and passenger are protected by front, side and knee air bags combined with seat belt pre-tensioners. Second-row seating positions are also equipped with seat-mounted side air bags and seat belt pre-tensioners. Inflatable curtains offer safety for third-row passengers. A tire-pressure-monitoring system, anti-lock brakes, and stability control are standard.

As of this writing, the LX 570 has not been crash tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

A sophisticated 4-wheel electro-hydraulic suspension with active height control (AHC) and adaptive variable suspension is fitted to the 2009 Lexus LX 570. This cross-linked system uses valves to detect suspension movement under each wheel and adjust the ride accordingly. With this suspension system, chassis roll is reduced by more than 30 percent, according to the manufacturer. The new suspension also raises and lowers the vehicle automatically through more than 2 inches of range for greater off-road clearance and better aerodynamics at highway speeds. The LX 570 offers blind corner monitoring, a system employing cameras within the grille and passenger mirror to help eliminate blind spots during slow speeds or parking.
