- Improved continuously variable transmission (CVT)
- Slightly revised trim names

Exterior Features
The Jeep Patriot is a compact crossover SUV, closely related to the Jeep Compass. While both are based on the same platform, the Patriot is marketed as a more traditional, conservative version of the vehicle. The Patriot is available in Sport, Latitude, and Limited trims, which all feature the Jeep's characteristic boxy profile.

Interior Features
The Sport trim features cloth upholstery, cruise control, 4-speaker sound system, and a tilt-only steering wheel. Air conditioning and power features are optional. The Latitude adds power accessories, air conditioning, heated mirrors, larger wheels, remote ignition, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and other enhancements. The Limited includes disc brakes on all four wheels and adds leather upholstery, automatic climate control, and more power features.

Optional Features
For 2012, satellite radio, upgraded audio system, daytime running lights, front-seat side air bags, remote ignition, roof rack crossbars, and several other features are optional. A sunroof is available on the Latitude and Limited trims. An Off-Road package adds all-wheel drive (AWD), skid plate, tow hooks, more versatile tires, and hill-descent control.

Under the Hood
Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard on the Jeep Patriot, with AWD optional. The Sport and Latitude trims employ a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that works with a manual transmission or optional CVT and delivers 158 horsepower. Optional is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 172 horsepower that comes with a 5-speed manual transmission or CVT. The larger engine is standard on the Limited trim and with AWD.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Jeep Patriot are:
- Patriot with 2.0-liter engine and manual transmission: 23/29/25 (city/highway/combined)
- Patriot with 2.0-liter engine and CVT: 23/27/24 mpg
- Patriot with 2.4-liter engine and manual transmission: 23/28/25 mpg
- Patriot with 2.4-liter engine and 4WD: 20/23/21 mpg

Standard safety features on the Jeep Patriot include anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and side curtain air bags. Other features are optional.

To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not tested the 2012 Jeep Patriot. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Patriot received a \"Good\" rating--the Institute's highest--in frontal-offset crash protection and for roof strength. In side-impact tests conducted by the IIHS, the Patriot with standard and additional optional side air bags received a \"Good\" rating, however, it achieved only a \"Marginal\" rating with standard but without additional optional side air bags.
