Exterior Features
The Jeep Liberty is a compact SUV that features a large, boxy design and strong off-road capabilities, according to the manufacturer. The Liberty is available in three trims: Sport, Limited, and Jet. Rear-wheel drive (2WD) is standard and two different 4-wheel-drive (4WD) systems are available. The Liberty Sport features 16-inch alloy wheels; the Limited adds more chrome and 17-inch wheels; and the Jet features 20-inch wheels. Properly equipped, the Liberty can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Interior Features
Standard equipment on the Sport trim includes cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power accessories, rear 60/40 split-folding seats, and a 6-speaker audio package. The Limited trim adds an upgraded sound system. The Jet trim includes rear parking sensors and side curtain air bags.

Optional Features
Many options are available at all trim levels as packages or stand-alone. On the Sport, packages include Bluetooth connectivity, fog lights, roof rack rails, cargo cover, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated power front seats, and leather upholstery. These are standard on the Limited trim, and 18-inch wheels are available with the Limited. The Limited and Jet trims offer optional automatic climate control and remote ignition. Available at all trim levels are a towing package, cloth or traditional sunroof, media center, and navigation system.

Under the Hood
The Liberty's standard power plant is a 3.7-liter 6-cylinder engine that delivers 210 horsepower. Rear-wheel drive and a 4-speed automatic transmission are standard. Part-time or full-time all-wheel drive (AWD) systems are optional.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Jeep Liberty are:
- Liberty with 2WD: 16/22/18 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Liberty with AWD: 15/21/17 mpg

Safety
Safety features on the Jeep Liberty include anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, active front head restraints, and side curtain air bags. Rear parking sensors are optional.

In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Liberty received a \"Good\" rating--the Institute's highest--in frontal-offset crash protection and roof strength, and a \"Marginal\" rating in side-impact crash protection.
