The XJ is Jaguar's flagship sedan. For 2010, its old-fashioned appearance was replaced by modern interior and exterior designs, so the 2011 model is mainly a carryover.

The 2011 Jaguar XJ comes in six wheelbase trims: the base XJ, XJ Supercharged, and XJ Supersport, plus the long-wheelbase versions of those trims (XJL). The standard wheelbase measures 119.5 inches; the XJLs go to 124 inches. The XJ features 19-inch wheels, panoramic sunroof, power-opening and -closing trunk lid, dual-zone automatic climate control, touch-screen electronics interface, Bluetooth connectivity, 14-speaker sound system with all the trimmings, and automatic Xenon headlights. The XJL trims provide 4-zone climate control and upgraded front and back seats, plus extended leather trim and a premium headliner. The Supercharged trims step up to 20-inch wheels and top-of-the-line Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound systems, both of which are optional on the base XJ trims. The Supersport trim adds standard adaptive cruise control and other extras, most of which are also optional on other trims. The trunk provides 15.2 cubic feet of cargo space, according to the manufacturer.

The 2011 Jaguar XJ and XJL both employ a 385-horsepower, 5.0-liter V-8 engine that delivers 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. The Supercharged trims feature a 470-horsepower, 5.0-liter V-8 engine that produces 424 lb.-ft. of torque. The Supersport's version of that same engine produces 510 horsepower and 461 lb.-ft. of torque. All engines are connected to rear-wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift paddles. Also standard are air-spring suspension and automatically controlled shock absorbers.

Standard safety features on the 2011 Jaguar XJ include anti-lock brakes, electronic stability system, front side air bags, side curtain air bags, front and rear parking sensors, and a blind-spot warning system. Active front seat belts whose pre-tensioners activate under abrupt braking or cornering are standard on upper trim levels, and optional on the base models.

Starting MSRPs for the 2011 Jaguar XJ line ranged from about $72,700 to $113,200.
