Jaguar, the classic British automotive nameplate, is synonymous with lavish, elegantly-styled automobiles. From the beautiful Mark V Drophead coupe and XK120 sports car, to the E-Type Roadster, Jaguar consistently reaffirms its tradition of combining passion and sport with polish and style. Marking a new design era for Jaguar, the 2009 Jaguar XF offers the visual excitement of a coupe in a stylish 4-door sedan. Inside the cabin, 5 passengers are treated to sophisticated luxury, while the hidden mechanicals deliver the ride, drive and performance of a true sports sedan.

Model Lineup
The all-new 2009 Jaguar XF will be launched in three trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Supercharged. The Luxury and Premium Luxury models will be equipped with a normally aspirated V-8, while Supercharged models feature a more powerful version of the same V-8 engine. As expected in a premium-luxury sedan, all versions are equipped with a high level of standard features including MP3 player connectivity, Phosphor Blue Halo ambient lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seating, wood veneer accents, and aluminum dash trim.

The XF Premium Luxury model adds standard steering wheel-mounted shift paddles, a navigation system, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, keyless entry and ignition, and 19-inch aluminum wheels. The top-end XF Supercharged adds to those items JaguarSense, JaguarDrive Control, Sirius satellite radio, a rear parking camera, blind-spot monitoring system, bi-Xenon headlamps, Front Parking Aid, and active ventilated climate-controlled heated and cooled seats.

The Jaguar XF's cabin is swathed in leather and wood, accented with aluminum. Phosphor Blue mood (or \"halo\") lighting bathes the interior, while a consistent theme is used throughout the dashboard, switch panels, touch-screen display, and instruments. An elegant finishing touch is the JaguarDrive Selector, which remains flush until the push-button ignition is switched on. When activated, it rises slowly into the palm of the driver's hand. In a similar manner, the air conditioning vents are hidden flush until the climate system is turned on, then smoothly rotate to the open position. JaguarSense, another new technology introduced on the XF, offers touch- or proximity-sensing for convenient control over the glove box release and overhead lighting. While the standard audio system features 8 speakers, audiophiles can choose an available 440-watt Bowers & Wilkins premium surround sound system. All XF models may be equipped with Bluetooth, iPod and MP3 interfaces, JaguarVoice command, digital radio, and a 6-disc CD player.

In traditional Jaguar manner, the new XF is a luxury sedan built on a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive platform. Jaguar claims the chassis offers best-in-class torsional stiffness to deliver both refinement and dynamic performance. In North America, the new XF will be available with a choice of two V-8 powerplants. The standard engine is an aluminum, 4.2-liter, normally aspirated V-8 rated at 300 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. The 4.2-liter V-8 powerplant of the supercharged XF is rated at 420 hp and 408 lb.-ft. of torque. EPA fuel economy ratings for the 300-hp V-8 engine are 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, while the supercharged engine is rated at 15 mpg city and 23 mpg highway.

Both engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission controlled by Jaguar's electronic Sequential Shift System. Zero to 60 mph times are estimated at 6.2 seconds for the normally aspirated model, and 5.1 seconds for the Supercharged model. Top speed of both models is electronically limited to 155 mph.

The Jaguar XF boasts independent suspension at all four corners. The front is an unequal-length wishbone design, while the rear utilizes a multi-link design. Weight-saving aluminum is used throughout the suspension to improve ride quality. Standard on all Supercharged XF models is Jaguar's Computer Adaptive Technology Suspension (CATS). With CATS, all dampening is electronically controlled within milliseconds in response to driving inputs and road conditions-offering an optimal balance between control and comfort, the company says.

The new Jaguar XF is built of high-carbon steel, boron steel, and bake-hardened steel to form a vertical \"safety ring\" around the occupants. Driver and passenger are offered additional protection by two-stage front air bags. Side and curtain air bags communicate with an occupant-sensing system to ensure the air bags work precisely, and only as needed. Seat belt retractors and anti-whiplash headrests help to minimize additional injury during an accident. All Jaguar XF models are equipped with many standard active safety systems including anti-lock brakes (ABS), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Understeer Control Logic, and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD).

The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system offered as standard equipment on the new Jaguar XF is a 2-stage design, similar to that featured on the Jaguar XK. Working with Trac DSC, the stability control system can be altered between two different programs-each based on the amount of wheel slip allowed before the system intervenes. On Supercharged models, the DSC can be completely defeated. All mode selections are confirmed on the instrument panel. Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have crash tested the 2009 Jaguar XF.

The 2009 XF features Jaguar's Sequential Shift System transmission, used for the first time in a sedan. This shift-by-wire transmission control replaces manual shift linkages with electronic commands. As a result, the 6-speed automatic transmission is able to shift smoothly, and very rapidly. According to Jaguar, the new transmission in the XF can shift even quicker than the acclaimed XK's transmission.

The driver interface to the system is the all-new JaguarDrive Selector. The rotary knob is an industry first, and is designed to combine precise control with space-saving packaging. The Sequential Shift System offers the driver several transmission modes, including Dynamic and Winter. These alter the shifting thresholds-and shift strategy-to match driver input and road conditions. The Sequential Shift System works completely automatically, or gearshifts can manually be initiated through steering wheel-mounted paddles. JaguarSense, which features a proximity-sensing control that opens the glovebox or turns on overhead lights without a physical touch, is another of the XF's intriguing technologies.
