The first US-built Infiniti, the QX56 has undergone a complete redesign for 2011, adding power and fuel efficiency. The QX56 is a full-size luxury SUV, a close cousin to the Nissan Armada. It has a truck-based design, and shares a platform with the Nissan Titan pickup. The QX56 will seat 7 or 8 (depending on whether bench or captain's seating is used in the second row), and features a V-8 engine. The automaker says it's specifically built for towing, and for off-road use.

Standard equipment on the 2011 Infiniti QX56 includes 20-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, automatic bi-Xenon headlights, power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, voice-activated hard-drive-based navigation system, fold-flat captain's chairs in the second row, power-folding third-row bench seating, auto-leveling rear suspension, Bluetooth connectivity, and a full list of power accessories. The Bose audio system features 13 speakers. Many option packages are available, and they can include a twin-screen rear entertainment system, 22-inch wheels, speed-sensitive power steering, upgraded climate control, adaptive headlights, adaptive cruise control, premium interior trim, and much more.

A Class IV trailer hitch is standard, and the QX56 can tow up to 8500 pounds, according to the manufacturer. With all the seats up, cargo space amounts to just over 19 cubic feet; with cargo space maximized, the total is 112 cubic feet.

The 2011 Infiniti QX56's 400-horsepower, 5.6-liter V-8 engine produces 413 lb.-ft. of torque. A 7-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control is standard; so is rear-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive is optional. The QX56 delivers 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.

Standard safety features on the 2011 Infiniti QX56 include front and rear cameras with around-view monitors, anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, stability control, traction control, front side air bags, and side curtain air bags. The Technology option package adds several safety features, including Distance Control Assist, Intelligent Brake Assist, and blind-spot and lane-departure warning systems.

Starting MSRP for the 2011 Infiniti QX56 was $58,700.
