What's New for 2014:
  • Q70 nomenclature replaces last year's M sedan
  • Available engine cooler

Recognized as the brand's flagship sedan, the 5-passenger 2014 Infiniti Q70 is available in rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) versions with V-6, V-8, and hybrid powertrains. Competitors include the Acura RLX, Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Cadillac CTS, Lexus GS, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Models and Features
Car shoppers considering the purchase of a 2014 Infiniti Q70 have the choice of three trim levels: the V-6-powered Q70 3.7, Q70 Hybrid, and the V-8-powered Q70 5.6. All variants are RWD by default, though the 3.7 and 5.6 models can be equipped with an optional AWD system (the Hybrid is only available with RWD).

As one might expect from a top-of-the-line sedan, even the base Q70 3.7 is delivered well-equipped with standard niceties including a leather-wrapped power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with memory, Bluetooth connectivity, 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance all-season tires, HID headlights, power-folding auto-dimming outside mirrors, power tilt/slide moonroof, and leather upholstery. The 2014 Infiniti Q70 3.7 is also fitted with heated power front seats with 10-way adjustment, genuine wood trim, 6-speaker audio system with a USB port and satellite radio service, rearview camera, and push-button start. These features are shared with the Q70 Hybrid.

For the most part, the Q70 5.6's standard equipment is similar to that found on lesser models, though there are a few exceptions. Among them are heated and cooled front seats, a 10-speaker high-end sound system with an in-dash DVD player, rear park-assist sensors, Bluetooth streaming audio, and an 8-inch touch-screen navigation system.

Options and Packages
In addition to the generous assortment of standard features, the 2014 Infiniti Q70 is offered with an ample selection of options. A Premium package fits the Q70 3.7 with many of the 5.6's upgrades, such as the navigation and audio systems, while a Performance Tire and Wheel package decks out 3.7 and 5.6 models with 20-inch alloy wheels and more capable brakes.

Other highlights include various Sport packages (now with an engine cooler on 3.7 models), as well as a Deluxe Touring package boasting a 16-speaker surround-sound system, advanced air purifier, premium leather upholstery, and upgraded materials found throughout the interior. And, demonstrating a dedicated focus on safety is the Technology package, which bundles together intelligent cruise control, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring system, and more.

Hybrid models are available with the Premium, Deluxe Touring, and Technology packages.

Under the Hood
Models affixed with the 3.7 badge are equipped with a 3.7-liter V-6 engine that produces 330 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque, all of which is directed to the rear or all four wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission featuring the company's downshift rev-matching technology.

Buyers who crave an extra dose of performance will want to consider a Q70 fitted with the available direct-injection 5.6-liter V-8 that generates 420 horsepower and 417 lb.-ft. of torque. The 7-speed transmission is standard and, as is the case with the V-6, the Q70's larger engine can be mated with an optional AWD system.

Alternatively, those on the hunt for the best possible fuel efficiency from their luxury sedan should direct their attention to the 2014 Infiniti Q70 Hybrid. In this case, the powertrain consists of a 3.5-liter V-6, 50-kW Lithium-ion battery, electric motor, and the 7-speed automatic transmission (minus the rev-matching feature). Net horsepower measures 360.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2014 Infiniti Q70 are:
  • Q70 RWD with V-6 engine: 18/26/21 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Q70 RWD with V-8 engine: 16/24/19 mpg
  • Q70 AWD with V-6 engine: 17/24/20 mpg
  • Q70 AWD with V-8 engine: 16/23/18 mpg
  • Q70 Hybrid: 29/34/31 mpg

Safety and Ratings
In crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2014 Infiniti Q70 received an overall rating of 5 (out of 5) stars. As this overview is written, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not rated the crashworthiness of the 2014 Infiniti Q70.

Among the Q70's many safety features are 4-wheel anti-lock vented disc brakes with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution, HID headlights, 6 air bags, and front active head restraints. Infiniti also offers Q70 buyers access to technologies including lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and more.
