What's New for 2013:
  • Redesigned for 2013
  • Split into two model series
  • 5- or 7-passenger seating
  • 4- or 6-cylinder engines
  • Infotainment and safety technologies

Exterior Features
The redesigned 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport models are the last in the automaker's lineup to receive what the company calls its \"fluidic sculpture\" design themes.

Interior Features
The Santa Fe is a 7-passenger crossover SUV, and the Santa Fe Sport is a smaller 5-passenger model. The standard cloth seating employs a YES Essentials stain-resistant fabric treatment, and the second-row seat features a 40/20/40-split folding design for greater cargo- and passenger-carrying flexibility. Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming is standard, along with a 1-year subscription to Blue Link telematics service.

Optional Features
Depending on the trim level selected, the new 2013 Santa Fe can be equipped with heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry with push-button ignition, power tailgate, and 19-inch aluminum wheels. Dual-zone automatic climate control is also available, featuring a CleanAir Ionizer system, as well as next-generation versions of Hyundai's audio and navigation systems.

Under the Hood
The Santa Fe Sport is equipped with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine generating an estimated 190 horsepower. A turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is available for the Santa Fe Sport, delivering an estimated 264 horsepower. All 7-passenger Santa Fe trims have a 290-horsepower, 3.3-liter V-6 engine.

Each engine type features direct fuel injection and Hyundai's Active ECO technology, which is designed to maximize fuel economy. In all models, a 6-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission delivers power to the front wheels (2WD) or, optionally, to all four wheels (AWD).

The available intelligent all-wheel-drive system features Torque Vectoring Cornering Control for greater handling capability, the automaker says. The new Santa Fe also includes standard hill-start assist and downhill brake control systems, as well as a Driver Selectable Steering Mode with Comfort, Normal and Sport tuning.

Fuel Economy
  • As this overview was written, the EPA had not released official fuel-economy estimates for the all-new Santa Fe. The following data are estimates supplied by Hyundai:
  • Santa Fe Sport 2.4: 23/33/26 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Santa Fe Sport 2.0T: 23/31/25 mpg
  • Santa Fe V-6: 19/26/To be determined mpg

Seven air bags, 4-wheel-disc brakes with brake assist, and a traction and stability control system are standard on the 2013 Santa Fe models. Hyundai also supplies a free 1-year subscription to Blue Link telematics service, which includes Automatic Collision Notification and Assistance, SOS Emergency Assistance, and programmable speed and curfew alerts.

A reversing camera is available with the optional navigation system, and a blind-spot monitoring system, Hyundai's first application of this technology, is optional on the 7-passenger Santa Fe.

As this overview was written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed crash tests on the 2013 Santa Fe.
