What's New for 2015:
  • New option packages for each trim level
  • Five new exterior paint colors

The 2015 Hyundai Elantra is a compact sedan that competes against the Chevrolet Cruze, Dodge Dart, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Kia Forte, Mazda 3, Nissan Sentra, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla, and Volkswagen Jetta.

Models and Features
Hyundai offers the 2015 Elantra Sedan in SE, Sport, and Limited trim levels. The Sport version is more powerful and less fuel-efficient, and gains sport-tuned steering and suspension systems. Unique 17-in. aluminum wheels, aluminum pedals, and a power sunroof are also included on this trim level.

Both the Elantra Sport and the Elantra Limited are equipped with leather seats, leather wrapped around the steering wheel and shift knob, power driver's seat, 4.3-in. color touch-screen audio system, and a reversing camera. These two versions of the Elantra sedan also receive upgraded headlights, LED running lights, LED taillights, black chrome grille treatment, side mirrors with turn signal indicators, and other minor trim details.

To this set of features, the Limited also installs an automatic transmission as standard equipment, along with Blue Link telematics service, heated rear seats, and its own special 17-in. aluminum wheel design. Dual-zone automatic climate control and keyless passive entry with push-button engine starting are exclusive upgrades for the Elantra Limited.

Under the Hood
A 145-horsepower, 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard in the Elantra SE and Limited. A 6-speed automatic transmission is optional for the SE, replacing the 6-speed manual gearbox. Limited versions include the automatic transmission as standard equipment.

Choose the Elantra Sport for a more powerful, 173-horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel Economy
The EPA rates the Elantra's standard 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine to return 27 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. Add the automatic transmission to the Elantra SE and those numbers each rise by 1 mpg. Keep in mind, though, that while the Elantra Limited has the automatic transmission as standard equipment, its larger 17-in. wheel/tire combination erases those 1-mpg gains.

The more powerful Elantra Sport gets 24 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway with the standard manual gearbox. Adding the optional automatic boosts highway fuel economy to 35 mpg.

Safety and Technology
Every 2015 Hyundai Elantra is equipped with an iPod/USB connection and an auxiliary audio input jack. All but the base Elantra SE without options is further equipped with a 4.3-in. touch-screen audio system including Bluetooth connectivity and music-streaming capability.

For 2015, Hyundai expands availability of its Blue Link telematics service by offering it on the Elantra Sport in addition to the Elantra Limited. Blue Link service includes a complimentary year of Connected Care features such as SOS Emergency Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, and Enhanced Roadside Assistance.

This package can be upgraded to Blue Link Remote service for an extra fee, and if you've got young drivers in the household this one is helpful because it allows the car's owner to program speed alerts, curfew alerts, and geo-fenced boundary alerts whenever the Elantra exceeds agreed-upon limits. Additional features include remote engine starting and door lock operation, a car-finder function via a smartphone app, stolen-vehicle slowdown and immobilization capability, and more.

The Blue Link Guidance service package is another upgrade that includes Google destination search as well as point-of-interest Web search and destination download capability. It is most useful on Elantra models equipped with the optional navigation system.
