What's New for 2013:
  • Additional standard equipment on base trim
  • Heated side mirrors added to all trims
  • Optional power sunroof

Exterior Features
The 2013 Hyundai Accent is sold as a 4-door sedan in GLS trim or as a 5-door hatchback in GS or SE trim. Hyundai says the Accent's styling reflects the company's \"fluidic sculpture\" design language. Power heated side mirrors are standard on all Accents, and they include integrated turn signal indicators on the Accent SE.

Interior Features
Every Hyundai Accent is equipped with air conditioning for 2013, as well as a 172-watt stereo system that includes 6 speakers, a free 3-month trial subscription to satellite radio, USB/iPod connection, auxiliary audio input jack, and a CD/MP3 player. Power windows, power door locks and remote keyless entry are also included. Accent GLS Sedans are equipped with a 13.7-cubic-foot trunk. The Accent GS and SE Hatchback models can handle 21.2 cubic feet of cargo with the rear seat in use, or 47.5 cubic feet with the rear seat folded. The EPA rates the Accent as a compact rather than a subcompact.

Optional Features
Few options are available for the 2013 Accent. Depending on trim, the Accent can be equipped with a set of 16-inch aluminum wheels, Bluetooth hands-free calling, cruise control, upgraded cloth seats and assorted interior trim, sliding center console armrest, floor mats, and a power sunroof.

Under the Hood
A direct-injected, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard on all Accent models. It makes 138 horsepower and 123 lb.-ft. of torque and drives the front wheels through a standard 6-speed manual gearbox. A 6-speed automatic with Shiftronic manual control is optional, and includes an Active ECO system that Hyundai claims provides a 7-percent improvement in fuel economy.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Hyundai Accent are:
  • Accent with manual transmission: 30/40/34 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Accent with automatic transmission: 30/40/33 mpg

The Accent is equipped with 6 air bags, traction control, stability control, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist.

In tests performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Accent received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars. In the side-impact test, the Accent's rear passenger protection rating is 3 stars due to intrusion of the left rear door during the test. In tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the structurally identical 2012 Accent received the highest rating of \"Good\" for all assessments except side-impact, where it was rated \"Acceptable.\"
