Introduction
The 2015 Ford Transit Connect is a compact van available in cargo and passenger configurations. It competes against the Chevrolet City Express, Nissan NV200, and Ram ProMaster City.

Models and Features
Ford has named the cargo-toting version of the Transit Connect the Van, while the passenger-hauling model is known as the Wagon. The former lacks side windows and is available in XL and XLT trim levels while the latter includes windows all around and is offered in XL, XLT, and leather-lined Titanium trim levels.

Under the Hood
A 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard in the 2015 Transit Connect, rated to make 169 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 171 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,500 rpm. As an option, this engine is designed to operate on compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas. A 6-speed automatic transmission drives the van's front wheels.

As an option, a turbocharged, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine is available, producing 178 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 184 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,500 rpm. Premium fuel is required with this turbocharged engine.

Depending on how the Transit Connect is configured it can carry up to 7 people, accommodate as much as 128.6 cu. ft. of cargo, haul up to 1,620 lbs. of payload, and tow as much as 2,000 lbs. of trailer.

Fuel Economy
The Transit Connect's optional turbocharged engine is slightly more fuel-efficient than the standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, rated to get 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The 2.5-liter engine is rated 21 mpg city/29 mpg highway when installed in the Van, while ratings for the Wagon are 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway.

Safety and Technology
Any Transit Connect can be fitted with a Ford Telematics system that uses a GPS-enabled data recorder to deliver information about where the van is located and how it is being driven, as well as providing access to reports that are designed to help fleet operators maximize vehicle and employee efficiency.

Ford's MyKey technology is also available, allowing the Transit Connect's owner to program warning and limitations related to seat belt use, vehicle speed, stereo volume, and more. Combined with Ford Telematics, MyKey helps corporate owners better manage how an employee uses a Transit Connect.

Among the van's safety features, torque-vectoring technology with a curve-control feature is designed to improve the Transit Connect's handling. When equipped with the Ford Sync Bluetooth connection, and when a device is paired to the system, a 911 Assist feature can automatically contact emergency rescue personnel following a collision in which the air bags deploy.

Additional features that are available for the Transit Connect include a reversing camera, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and park-assist sensors for the front and rear bumpers. A MyFord Touch infotainment system is optional, along with a navigation system, and the Transit Connect can be fitted with a dual-zone climate control system. Ford also offers a QuickClear windshield defroster system for this small van.
