Overview

The Ford Taurus is a full size vehicle that was first launched in 1986. In production nearly continuously, it is one of the automaker's longest-running nameplates. The current model is in its sixth-generation, last completely redesigned for 2010. As it was all new just last year, there are only minor equipment changes for 2011, including a standard rearview camera on high-end models and three-years of complimentary service with the Sync infotainment system.

The Taurus is sold in four trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited, and SHO. Standard equipment includes cloth upholstery, air conditioning, full power accessories, cruise control, keyless entry, 17-inch alloy wheels, and more. The SEL is upgraded with features such as dual-zone climate control, higher-grade upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Limited model features power-operated front seats and an upgraded audio system, among other things. The range-topping SHO, a high-performance variant, features leather upholstery, sport suspension, xenon headlamps, exterior aerodynamics, and more.

The Ford Taurus is offered with two engine choices. The standard powerplant is a 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine that is rated at 263 horsepower. It is mated to a six-speed automatic that sends its power to the front wheels-or optionally to all wheels on SEL and Limited models. The Taurus SHO is fitted with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter engine rated at 365 horsepower. A six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive is standard. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Ford Taurus between 17 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, depending on powertrain.

The 2011 Ford Taurus SE starts with a base price of about $26,000 and tops out with the Taurus SHO, which starts around $38,500.
