- Three trim levels replace single-trim strategy

Exterior Features
The Dodge Challenger is a full-size coupe, a modern version of the early 1970s model. The 2011 model featured several performance upgrades, which carry over for 2012. The 2012 Challenger is available in SXT, R/T, and SRT8 392 trims, each of which features a different engine. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard, with 20-inch wheels available or standard on the SRT8 392.

Interior Features
The Dodge Challenger base model features keyless entry and ignition, automatic climate control, 6-speaker sound system, and power accessories. The R/T adds automatic headlights, fog lights, satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity. The SRT8 392 features sport seats, hydraulic power steering, higher-performance brakes and suspension, and other upgrades.

Optional Features
Many option packages are available at each trim level. The SXT Plus package adds leather upholstery to the base model, as well as heated front seats, automatic headlights, and Bluetooth connectivity. The Super Sport package includes larger wheels, several higher-performance features, and a rear spoiler. The Electronics Convenience, Interior Appearance, and Sound Group II packages round out the list. On the SRT8 392, a navigation system and an 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system are optional.

Under the Hood
The Dodge Challenger SXT is fitted with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine rated at 305 horsepower that works with a 5-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The R/T trim comes with a 6-speed manual transmission (automatic transmission is optional) and a 5.7-liter V-8 rated at 376 horsepower that delivers 400 lb.-ft. of torque. The V-8 engine in the SRT8 392 trim is a 6.4-liter model that delivers 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. With this engine, a 6-speed manual transmission is optional.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Dodge Challenger are:
- SXT: 18/27/21 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- R/T with automatic transmission: 16/25/19 mpg
- R/T with manual transmission: 15/24/18 mpg
