First introduced for the 2005 model year as a crossover sport van in the midsize van segment, the Chevrolet Uplander is the last of its breed at GM. (Gone now are siblings Pontiac Montana, Saturn Relay and Buick Terraza.) For 2008, the front-wheel-drive (FWD), 5-door, up to 7-passenger Uplander returns as a carryover model from its 2007 version. Changes include the addition of standard XM satellite radio and a tire-pressure-monitoring system, as well as electronic stability control and traction control, an iPod/MP3 auxiliary input jack, and new Ink Slate Metallic exterior color. An E85 flexible-fuel variant of Uplander's 3.9-liter V-6 engine is also available. Electronic stability control is standard.

The 2008 Chevrolet Uplander is available in three trims: LS, Extended LS and Extended 1LT. Options on the 2008 Chevrolet Uplander include remote vehicle start; power sliding driver-side door; deep-tinted glass (standard on LT); intermittent rear wiper (standard on LT); sport suspension; trailering provisions; 17-inch cast, machined-face or bright chrome-clad aluminum wheels; defogger; cruise control; and an overhead rail system. An optional Safe & Secure package includes sport suspension, automatic level control, tire inflator kit and touring tires. A power convenience package option includes a 115-volt power outlet, power-sliding driver-side door and rear parking assist.

There's only one engine choice in Chevrolet Uplander for 2008-a 3.9-liter, single overhead cam (SOHC), 12-valve V-6 engine that delivers 240 hp at 6000 rpm and 240 lb.-ft. of torque at 4800 rpm. An E85 flexible-fuel (FFV) version is also available, capable of running on ethanol fuel or a combination of ethanol and gasoline. Power is transferred through a 4-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel economy estimates are 16 mpg city/23 mpg highway for the 3.9-liter V-6 engine in standard or FFV version using gasoline, while the FFV running on E85 gets an estimated 12 mpg city/17 mpg highway.

Chevrolet Uplander standard and available safety features for 2008 include dual-stage frontal air bags; driver and right-front passenger seat-mounted side-impact air bags; second-row outboard seat-mounted side-impact air bags; passenger-sensing system; 3-point safety belts; second-row integral child seat; Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) for child safety seats; electronic stability control; traction control; ABS; and OnStar with one-year Safe & Sound plan.
