The 2015 Chevrolet SS is a 5-passenger, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) high-performance sports sedan, based on the Australian VF Commodore. It's built on the same vehicle platform as the Chevrolet Camaro but it's offered exclusively with a V-8 engine. Competitors include the Audi S4, Dodge Charger R/T, Ford Taurus SHO, Hyundai Genesis R-Spec, Lexus IS F, and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG.

Models and Features
The 2015 Chevrolet SS is offered in a single trim level. Standard exterior features include 19-in. alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, and electronic self-parking technology. The SS features distinctive design cues such as staggered front and rear wheels; an aluminum hood that features a subtle \"power bulge\"; tapered, tear-drop shaped rear; jewel-like chrome accents; standard HID headlights; LED daytime running lights; and bright dual exhaust tips.

Standard interior amenities for the 2015 SS include jet-black leather heated and cooled power front seats with 10-way adjustment; voice-activated calling and texting capability; an 8-in. touch screen that manages a 9-speaker Bose sound system and a navigation system; Bluetooth connectivity and streaming audio; dual-zone climate control; digital head-up display; and push-button start. The SS emblem is prominently stitched onto the soft-touch instrument panel, which features two types of chrome finishes: satin gloss and bright chrome. The center console houses dual cupholders. Fold-out rear cupholders are also located at the base of the center rear seating position. Two auxiliary power outlets and a USB outlet are standard.

Options and Packages
The 2015 SS offers only a handful of options from the factory. A power sunroof is available; so are a full-size spare tire and wheel. Newly available for 2015 is a 6-speed manual transmission.

Under the Hood
The 2015 Chevrolet SS employs a 6.2-liter V-8 engine, one that produces 415 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft. of torque. It works with either a new-for-2015 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle-shift control. A 3.27 axle ratio is standard with the automatic transmission; a 3.70 axle is provided for the manual transmission. The SS features a sport-tuned suspension: The front suspension is a MacPherson-strut-based multi-link system with a direct-acting stabilizer bar, while the rear features a multi-link independent suspension. Third-generation Magnetic Ride Control is new for 2015. The selectable Tour, Sport, and Performance modes allow the driver to determine the desired amount of ride stiffness. The standard braking system consists of Brembo 4-wheel discs, with ventilated 14-in. front rotors and 14.2-in. rear rotors, 4-piston aluminum calipers, and electronic brake-force distribution.

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, drivers of the 2015 Chevrolet SS with manual transmission should expect 15 mpg in the city, 21 mpg on the highway, and 17 mpg combined. With the automatic transmission, the SS is anticipated to return 14/21/17 mpg. Premium fuel is recommended, though not required.

Safety Ratings and Technology
The 2015 Chevrolet SS's standard safety features include Automatic Parking Assist, which uses an ultrasonic sensing system to detect the width and depth of either parallel or reverse right-angle parking spaces; forward-collision alert; lane-departure warning; side blind-zone alert; rear cross-traffic alert; rear vision camera; 8 air bags; electronic stability control; and traction control.

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have published safety ratings for the 2015 Chevrolet SS.
