The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a full-size pickup truck available in regular, extended, and crew cab body styles with various-size cargo beds. Multiple trim levels are offered, and the Silverado 1500 is equipped with one of three engines and either rear-wheel (2WD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD). Primary competitors include the Ford F-150, Nissan Titan, Ram 1500, and Toyota Tundra. The GMC Sierra 1500 is essentially the same as the Silverado beneath its different styling.

Models and Features
Depending on the cab style selected, the 2015 Silverado 1500 is available in Work Truck (WT), LS, LT, LTZ, and High Country trim levels.

Upgrade to the Silverado LS for chrome exterior and wheel trim, heated outside mirrors, and remote keyless entry. This version also includes a MyLink infotainment system with satellite radio and a 4.2-in. screen, Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports, and OnStar services with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot connection.

Silverado LTs have aluminum wheels plus an EZ Lower-and-Lift tailgate design. Cloth seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, center storage console, locking underseat storage, and a 4.2-in. driver information display are also standard for the LT, along with an automatic-locking rear differential and a Max Trailering package.

Leather seats, 10-way power front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an 8-in. color touch screen for the MyLink system are standard for the Silverado LTZ. This version also includes bigger aluminum wheels, fog lights, and extra chrome trim, as well as a reversing camera, remote engine starting, and a power-sliding rear window. A 5.3-liter V-8 engine is also included for the LTZ.

The Silverado High Country is the luxury version of this pickup truck, featuring premium perforated leather, heated and ventilated front seats, premium sound system, navigation system, front and rear park-assist sensors, and a spray-in bedliner. The High Country rolls on chrome 20-in. wheels and gets a unique grille.

Under the Hood
Chevrolet offers three different engines for the 2015 Silverado 1500. A 4.3-liter V-6 engine making 285 horsepower and 305 lb.-ft. of torque is standard, with a 5.3-liter V-8 generating 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque available. Both engines feature Active Fuel Management, allowing them to operate on fewer cylinders in order to conserve fuel, and each is bolted to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Choose the Silverado Double Cab or Crew Cab and a 6.2-liter V-8 engine is also optional. It cranks out 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque and is paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission for the 2015 model year. This larger V-8 also features Active Fuel Management.

A 4WD system is optional for all 2015 Silverados, and Chevrolet includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of ownership. Depending on how the Silverado is equipped, it can tow up to 12,000 lbs. and can haul as much as 2,260 lbs. of payload. Additionally, every 2015 Silverado is equipped with DuraLife brakes designed to last 80,000 mi., and an optional Z71 suspension package preps the Silverado for off-roading excursions.

Fuel Economy
When equipped with the standard V-6 engine the Silverado 1500 is expected to return from a low of 17 mpg in the city to a high of 24 mpg on the highway, with 4WD versions less efficient than those with 2WD. Upgrade to the 5.3-liter V-8 and the city rating is 16 mpg while the highway rating is 22-23 mpg, depending on whether or not the truck has 4WD. Choose the 6.2-liter V-8 and the fuel-economy ratings are 15 mpg city/21 mpg highway, regardless of drivetrain type.

Safety and Technology
For 2015, the Silverado 1500's OnStar system gains 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, which is free for the first 3 months of ownership or 3GB of data usage. Beyond that, owners must pay for the service. Trucks with the MyLink touch-screen infotainment system gain new text-messaging alerts as well as Siri Eyes Free compatibility, allowing owners to operate a compatible and connected Apple device using voice commands.

In addition to an Internet connection, OnStar equips the Silverado with 6 free months of Automatic Crash Response service, which automatically summons help following an air bag deployment. Chevrolet also offers a forward-collision warning system for the Silverado 1500, as well as a lane-departure warning system and a Safety Alert Seat that vibrates when a threat exists in order to get the driver's attention. A reversing camera and both front and rear park-assist sensors are also available.
