What's New for 2015:
  • OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with mobile Wi-Fi access
  • Two new paint colors: Blue Velvet and Sea Grass

The 2015 Chevrolet Equinox is a 5-passenger crossover SUV. It is larger than many compact crossovers, and smaller than many midsize crossovers. Primary competitors include the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Jeep Patriot, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester, Subaru Outback, and Toyota RAV4.

Models and Features
Chevrolet sells the 2015 Equinox in LS, LT, and LTZ trim levels. Select the LT for heated side mirrors, roof rack rails, dark-tinted rear privacy glass, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and premium cloth seats. This trim level also has a Chevrolet MyLink touch-screen radio with a 7-in. color touch-screen display, Bluetooth streaming audio capability, Internet radio applications, Siri Eyes Free compatibility, text-messaging support, USB port, and a reversing camera.

Between the LT and LTZ, Chevrolet offers a 2LT trim level. It adds automatic climate control, premium sound system, power driver's seat, heated front seats, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and remote engine starting. Visually, front fog lights identify the Equinox 2LT.

Leather seats are included for the Equinox LTZ, along with a number of other upgrades including a memory system for the driver's preferred settings, power front passenger's seat, power rear liftgate, HomeLink programmable remote, more upscale trim, and enhanced cabin lighting. This version also includes rear park-assist sensors, lane-departure warning system, and a forward-collision warning system, as well as nicer aluminum wheels.

Under the Hood
All three versions of the 2015 Equinox are equipped with a standard 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine generating 182 horsepower. A 6-speed automatic transmission feeds power to the SUV's front wheels, and all-wheel drive (AWD) is available as an option.

Alternatively, Chevrolet offers an optional 3.6-liter V-6 engine for the LT and LTZ trims. It generates 301 horsepower, is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and is available with front-wheel drive (FWD) or AWD.

Fuel Economy
The most fuel-efficient version of the 2015 Equinox is equipped with a 4-cylinder engine and FWD. According to the EPA, this model is expected to get 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. AWD cuts fuel-economy ratings to 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

As is expected, the Equinox's optional V-6 engine takes a toll on gas mileage. With FWD, ratings are 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The optional AWD system brings those numbers down to 16 mpg city/23 mpg highway.

Safety and Technology
In crash testing, the 2015 Equinox receives an overall rating of 4 stars (out of a possible 5) from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the Equinox its top rating of \"Good\" in every assessment, combined with a \"Basic\" front crash-prevention rating.

That front crash-prevention rating is courtesy of the Equinox's optional forward-collision alert system, which warns the driver when conditions exist for a possible impact with traffic or an object ahead. It is part of a safety package that is optional for the Equinox 2LT and standard for the Equinox LTZ, and is paired with rear park-assist sensors and a lane-departure warning system.

On the infotainment front, a Chevrolet MyLink touch-screen radio is standard for the Equinox LT and LTZ. Navigation is an upgrade for MyLink, and the Equinox LTZ can be further enhanced with a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system.

New for 2015, the Equinox's OnStar telematics system offers a fast 4G LTE connection that turns the crossover into a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. A free trial period good for 3 months of service or 3GB of data usage, whichever comes first, is included.
