The Corvette is the quintessential American sports car. The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is offered in coupe and convertible body styles. It competes against various foreign-made and American-made high-performance cars, including the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Jaguar F-Type V8 S, Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG, Nissan GT-R, Porsche 911, Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayman, and SRT Viper.

Models and Features
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette is available in three model series: base Stingray, Z51, and Z06. These are further divided into trim levels or equipment groups: 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT (or LZ for the Z06).

The Corvette with 1LT equipment group includes leather upholstery, 8-way power-adjustable seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, Keyless Access passive entry with push-button starting, power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and a reversing camera. An 8-in. color touch-screen infotainment system includes Chevrolet MyLink technology and Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming capability, a 9-speaker Bose audio system with satellite radio, dual USB ports, SD card slot, HID headlights, LED running lights, LED turn signal indicators, and LED taillights. The OnStar and Wi-Fi functions have been upgraded for 2015. The convertible model features a power roof that can be remotely operated using the key fob, and can drop in 21 seconds at speeds up to 30 mph, according to Chevrolet.

The 2LT trim level adds heated and ventilated front seats, power-adjustable seat bolsters and lumbar support, driver's seat memory settings, upgraded sound system, and a color head-up display with performance metrics. Other enhancements include a luggage cover, cargo net, frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, auto-dimming exterior mirrors, universal home remote, and an anti-theft system. The 3LT adds premium leather seats, leather-wrapped interior, and a navigation system.

Options and Packages
The Corvette Z51 is basically a performance package that features performance brakes, performance suspension, performance gear ratios for the transmission, and 19-in. front/20-in. rear forged aluminum wheels. Improved aerodynamics, an electronic limited-slip differential, and a dry-sump oil system are included, along with upgraded cooling systems for the brakes, transmission, and differential. Optional with this package is the Performance Traction Management system, along with Magnetic Selective Ride Control and black-painted wheels.

Other options include real aluminum or carbon-fiber trim; Competition Sport seats; remote start; suede microfiber-wrapped steering wheel; transparent or visible carbon fiber roof panels for the coupe; chrome or machined aluminum wheels; a new 8-speed automatic transmission that replaces the old 6-speed system; and a performance exhaust system. Corvette Museum Delivery adds a personalized plaque to the dashboard.

The ultra-powerful Corvette Z06 now offers that 8-speed automatic transmission as an option, and is available as a convertible with a power top for the first time, in addition to the traditional removable roof panel.

Under the Hood
The standard drivetrain in the 2015 Corvette consists of a 6.2-liter V-8 engine featuring direct fuel injection, continuously variable valve timing, and an Active Fuel Management system that shuts off half of the engine's cylinders under certain driving conditions to conserve fuel. A 7-speed manual gearbox with Active Rev Match is standard, and a new 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is optional; both send power to the rear wheels. The engine generates 455 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque; with the optional performance exhaust system it makes 460 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. The standard Drive Mode Selector allows the driver to choose among Weather, Eco, Tour, Sport, and Track driving modes and configure up to 12 specific performance variables.

The 2015 Corvette Z06 features a supercharged, 6.2-liter V-8 engine that works with either transmission and makes 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque.

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray with the standard manual gearbox is rated to return 17 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and 21 mpg in combined driving. The automatic transmission returns 16/29/20 mpg. The Corvette Z06 with manual transmission returns 15/22/18 mpg, and 13/21/16 mpg with automatic transmission.

Safety Ratings and Technology
As of this writing, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has published crash tests results for the 2015 Corvette.
