Model Lineup
The 2008 Chevrolet Corvette is available in three models: coupe, convertible and ZO6. The list of standard equipment on the coupe and convertible includes split-spoke cast aluminum wheels; improved steering; new keyless access remote key fob with integrated key; interior trim enhancements including brushed aluminum accents; auto-dimming mirrors with compass; and two new premium exterior colors-Jetstream Blue Metallic Tintcoat and Crystal Red Metallic Tintcoat. Available options include the Z51 performance package; 2.73 performance axle with 6-speed automatic paddle shift (included in Z51 package); polished forged aluminum wheels; custom leather-wrapped interior package in new colors of Linen and Sienna; and a dual-mode performance exhaust system.

Standard equipment on the ZO6 model includes the 7.0-liter LS7 V-8 engine; forged steel main bearing caps and crankshaft; titanium connecting rods; cast aluminum flat-top pistons; unique cylinder block; and racing-derived aluminum cylinder heads with titanium-filled intake valves and sodium-filled exhaust valves. ZO6 options include a Bose audio system with an in-dash 6-disc CD changer; polished chrome or Competition Gray wheels; side-impact air bags; telescoping heated steering wheel; heated seats; and a navigation system with GPS and universal home remote.

The all-new 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 engine, which features an increase in displacement of .2 liters from the 6.0-liter 2007 engine, is standard on the 2008 Corvette coupe and convertible and delivers 430 hp at 5900 rpm and 424 lb.-ft. of torque at 4600 rpm. With the optional new dual-mode exhaust system, power output increases to 436 hp at 5900 rpm and 428 lb.-ft. of torque at 4600 rpm. Other new engine features in the 2008 Corvette include an enhanced valvetrain, and new high-flow intake manifold and cylinder head. The new models offer improved manual transmission shift effort and quicker 6-speed automatic shift times as well as a new 2.73 performance axle ratio available with the automatic transmission. There are virtually no changes to the 2008 Corvette ZO6, which features a 7.0-liter LS7 V-8 engine that delivers 505 hp at 6300 rpm and 470 lb.-ft. of torque at 4800 rpm. EPA fuel economy estimates for the 6.2-liter 6-speed automatic V-8 are 15 mpg city/25 mpg highway; the 6.2-liter 6-speed manual transmission V-8 model gets 16 mpg city/26 mpg highway; and the 7.0-liter V-8 ZO6 is estimated at 15 mpg city/24 mpg highway.

The 2008 Chevrolet Corvette has not been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for front or side-impact crash tests or for rollover tests. However, all 2008 Corvette models have standard driver and right front passenger frontal air bags. Side-impact air bags are standard on the convertible and available on coupe and ZO6 models. Other standard safety features include: active handling, including traction control and anti-lock brakes; run-flat Goodyear extended mobility tires; and Xenon high-intensity discharge headlamps. OnStar with voice-activated turn-by-turn navigation is available on all three models.

Other high-tech features include auto-dimming mirrors with compass; three suspension choices (standard, Magnetic Selective Ride Control, and Z51 performance package); XM satellite radio; full-function OnStar system and available voice-activated onboard navigation system; and three standard dynamic chassis control systems (anti-lock braking, traction control and Active Handling).
